TENNESSEE PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR CE REQUIREMENTS

Tennessee private investigators must complete 12 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years prior to license renewal. All courses must be earned through Commission-approved providers, and certificates of completion must be submitted to the Private Investigation and Polygraph Commission.

• Total Hours: 12 hours of continuing professional education.
• Renewal Cycle: Every 2 years.
• Provider Approval: All coursework must be completed through providers or programs approved by the state. If you wish to use an unlisted course, you must submit a course approval form to the state. 

How to Apply and Verify Credit

• Approved Providers: You can find an updated directory of approved CE classes on the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance CE Directory. 
• Credit Submission: If you take an unapproved course, you can submit it for program review by emailing the TN Private Investigation Course Approval Form to Private.Investigation@tn.gov.
• License Portal: Manage your education, renewal, and license status using the state's centralized portal at Tennessee Core Government Portal.
